Richard Scholtz

In 1987, when he was almost 40, Richard Scholtz fainted while playing soccer in a recreation league. As a result, he learned that he needed open-heart surgery to implant an artificial aortic valve, which he had eight weeks later. Richard received excellent medical care; he especially appreciated the caring and humane quality of his care. He wanted to find a way-in addition to payment of the monetary fees-to express his appreciation for the cardiologist and other physicians and nurses who cared for him. As a musician, he offered to play music in the waiting room of his physicians' practice. Read More...
