The Institute posts notices of positions available on Idealist.com. Some positions are posted in this section of our website. Understanding of and a commitment to patient- and family-centered care, strong writing and editing abilities, and interpersonal skills are among the key prerequisites for Institute program staff members. Some positions require a degree in a health-related field or other specialty area related to our work. Experience as a patient and family leader or advisor is highly valued. Full-time as well as part-time employment opportunities are available.

The Institute benefits from the efforts of on-site volunteers and interns who provide support to our staff. Some volunteers and interns help out with mailings, answer phones, and/or conduct research on the Internet. Volunteers and interns with personal or professional expertise in health care may assist our staff with special projects, such as developing our database on innovation and best practices in patient- and family-centered care, compiling literature reviews, and updating our guidance publications. Individuals with proficiency in computers may work on our website and assist with conference planning.

Our offices are located in Bethesda, Maryland, a suburb of Washington, D.C., and are accessible by public transportation.
