During the COVID-19 pandemic, many hospitals limited or restricted visitors to control the spread of the virus. These new policies greatly impacted family members and care partners who are closely involved in the care of patients. They could not be with their loved ones.
IPFCC partnered with three health systems on an 18-month project, "Learning from Experience: Exploring the Impact of Approaches to Family Presence in Hospitals During COVID-19."
Funded through a Eugene Washington PCORI Engagement Award, the project’s purpose was to engage key stakeholders—patients, families, and clinicians—and to learn from them about the impact of these family presence policies during the pandemic. Through a series of virtual meetings, these stakeholders identified themes, topics, and questions to inform future research.
